The traditional way. Our style. Our way.

►►At RANDOM

Or more like "MISCELLANEOUS" with the way we create and discard. A collection of our drawings made on impulse; as a note or as sort-of character designs for stories we've come up out of the blue (stories we write and forget about after a day or two -_-; ). These drawings are our way of putting an idea into paper, but it depends on the mood...

And these moods differ depending on the day, time, weather and the last person we've talked to--- which often leaves us wanting to bury someone alive or boil in hot oil. Not exactly the kind of mood to inspire but, hey, it works for us. Plus, the more my sis and I argue, the more we can actually create new characters (they just eventually end up non-human).

A majority of these randomly created drawings were done on scraps of paper, notebooks or the blank pages of a book. The more disposable they are the more I want to use them. Since my family runs a School & Office Supplies store there's plenty of reject papers around. Clean sheets of paper makes me lose the mood to work, a personality of mine to keep things clean the way they are.

Whenever we do get a hold of anything we can draw on we find ourselves with a pen or pencil in hand and already doodling and forming shapes on the blank page.

These shapes may be an eye, a pair of eyes, mouth, nose, hands, hair, expressions, body movements or an entire character complete with apparel but no face. We doodle with whatever hits us. There are times when our erratic scribbles can be used as patters on our characters clothes and extras, or they're just plain scribbles.

The number of our random works are still increasing up to this day, and when a new one comes up, expect it to be piled on top among the rest after a couple of days. If not, its easily discarded.

ART Sale!

Well, its more like 'Drawing' Sale.^^;

Been on a drawing spree since October 28, 2010 after sort of browsing through cosplay photos of the local cosplayers. Started getting ideas and motivation to draw something out of them. May and may not be an accurate resemblance with the photos I used as references (I notified the cosplayer involved).

I realized that there are thousands of photos of just the local cosplayers alone.^^; But I have to admit, very few with good photographic outcome.

Those with a real feel to them were the ones I picked out--- even lesser than the few good outcomes.

Anyway, after drawing them--- the finished product is pretty big, by the way-- I decided to sell them. It started off as an idea to animize cosplayers in nearby areas to sort of advertise our new business venture in cloth wear customizing <-- we seriously lack publicity in that part. Each 11.30" x 18.95" (28.5cm x 47.80cm) drawing costs Php30.00, its a bit smaller than a half-size cartolina. Depending on the details involved though, price may vary. So far, I've only done some in the mentioned price range. After months of procrastination, I'm getting my hand warmed up--- and I'm getting sloppy. T__T

Image quality isn't so great--- crappy photographer here.^^;
Took a pic of the drawings indoors since I can manage to finish each at night. Couldn't wait for tomorrow's sun to shine and make full use of the natural light.

On another note about the drawings for market:
  • may still contain pencil marks
  • visible pen strokes
  • not so sharp lines
  • paper may discolor and ink may stain with time
The materials I used are not-the-expensive kind and those that are easy to find within range of our town.

Titles

Titles we're thinking of working on in future-- maybe not all of them just a few we can manage to make somewhat interesting.

This is a list of the many UNFINISHED stories we have considered turning into manga/comic but haven't gotten around to it with all the new ideas we keep coming up with.

These stories we've often tried to merge to refrain from creating an even longer list.
  1. Isla - action, fantasy, supernatural, comedy
  2. Oroz - action, fantasy, comedy, adventure
  3. Accel Rush - action, comedy, sci-fi
  4. Hallow Creak - fantasy, supernatural, comedy, school
  5. House of Masks - supernatural, tragedy, mystery
  6. Romantease - fantasy, comedy, school, romance
  7. U13 (Unlucky 13) - action, comedy
  8. TH3M - fantasy, supernatural, religion
  9. Century A.D. (Angelic Disaster) - fantasy, tragedy
  10. Gia - fantasy, adventure, war
  11. Blades - fantasy, tragedy, war
  12. Androgyny - drama, romance, mature
  13. R.A.S.H. (Ryuka, Asuka, Shizuka, Haruka) - action, mystery, tragedy
  14. Maraverde - comedy, mystery, supernatura, horror (?), tragedy (?)
  15. Crazy Heaven - comedy, romance, josei, gender-bender
  16. Love Story - romance, tragedy, slice of life
  17. Rosal - romance, comedy
  18. Are You Really Mine? - drama, romance
  19. Co-Ed Complex - comedy, school
  20. Contents of a Red Notebook - semi-fiction, comedy, dry humor, slice of life
  21. Spellbinders - fantasy, supernatural, comedy
  22. Guath - fantasy, adventure
  23. belove~d - fantasy, romance
Genres following after each title may not be accurate since the stories themselves are often revised.

    Photoshop stuff

Photoshop works courtesy of my sister. I did the pencilling, she finished the ink lineart and ran them through photoshop.

<< Image to the left is an unfinished version. Worked on this during the Digital Painting Workshop. The completed version got corrupted and couldn't be opened. It got infected with a virus from a borrowed computer. Good thing we managed to have it printed beforehand.

There was supposed to be a background with a sort of watercolor effect which my sister learned just the day before from her various references. She tried it out on this drawing. Too bad I couldn't put up the finished outcome.

Next Image is supposedly mine. Well, I started on it, only managed to do the base color part before I shoved all the work on my sister. The Digital Painting course required each student to submit one finished work colored in Photoshop. Since I was practically new to the program it took me a good deal longer to work on my drawing than the 5-6 sessions.

The color combination sucked (I'm no good at it) and with little time left, she had to make do with what I started. The gloves were supposed to be yellow or something, I did something before she could fix it and it turned into a muddy sort of color. Coloring is definitely NOT my forte.

Other images on the right are for an OC Tournament in DeviantArt called the Samurai Duelers League or SDL for short.

The SDL Profile Template on the first one belongs to RoninsUltramix and is to be used for duelers who join SDL.

The application and coloring of our OCs was done by my sister (with me prodding in the background).

Second image is another of her handiwork. I just wanted her to tone it but she did more than that.

In regards to Photoshop works by my sister... there isn't much since she rarely finishes any of them. When she gets in the mood to work either Photoshop acts out on her or the computer crashes. Her opportunity to use Photoshop is limited.

Before we knew the existence of Photoshop, she used to color them in Microsoft paint-- a painstaking process of cleaning lineart.

The above image is mine, the ones below are all my sisters. She drew, inked and colored them all by herself. The 'newspaper' pattern on the middle one she made from cutting out clippings from old newspapers. Above and below drawings were colored and tweaked in MS Paint.

    Drawing Styles

My drawing style varies depending on my mood and/or what I'm currently in the mood to draw.

If there's something I want to depict in a story, I start doodling on it. Sometimes its just to get the idea what the characters may look like, that's why the tendency to not finishing any of our stories since we keep revising the outer looks.

In later posts I may just try and introduce some of the more serious stories we want to work on and the characters involved... there are quite a lot if I may say so. We can't seem to stick to just one before an ultimately new idea pops up or another thought for an existing story flits in mind and we just had to put it in before we completely forget about it.

    Back to the issue.

My drawing style mainly revolves around shoujo-fantasy. Shoujo genre is a class of manga for an audience of young girls. I jump from fantasy to modern, again depends on the story, but the modern themes we focus on still retains a touch of a fantasy outlook.

I learned to love details, in fact I insist on adding them much to my sister's chagrin. Oh, and details doesn't necessarily mean accessories.

And somehow, when I get down and do some serious work I end up getting a fever the next day... I wonder why?

    Evolution - Wings

The wings... difficult as they look, they're actually quite easy to draw once you know the basic points on how to do them right.

To quote my sister, "Wings have joints, how else would they bend when they're being tucked at the back?"

For sure wings can't just stay spread out all the time, right? So I finally noticed that they bend in certain areas at length... especially on which part of the back they're supposedly attached to.

And she showed them to me by actually making me observe figurines in malls. She even nearly bought one about 15" inches tall just so I'd have a constant reminder on how they're supposed to look like.

Where was I supposed to put it?

Good thing I managed to dissuade her. Though, there were several attempts of trying to purchase other figurines with different wings afterward. XD

If there had been a dragon kind I would have been easily persuaded but those things didn't appear to the public until a few years later, where we could both learn self-control--- and splurge on drawing materials instead.

To start off, my first attempt at drawing wings weren't up to par. They resembled elementary school level grass than feathers.

This one started out when I saw my sister drawing a half-angel, half-demon character. I thought it was interesting and started doodling on my own, and it was on the back of my Math text book. Good thing the last pages weren't included in class.

I was at the point of drawing the wings when I realized I had no idea what they're supposed to look like... or how you draw them at all.

My sister wouldn't show me what she did so I had to do them on my own basing on some pics I saw from Angel Sanctuary which inspired us to create wings. My sister also referred to Ah! My Goddess.

I should have had done the same too, but one look at the wings, I chose the easiest way to do it.

What can I say? Details were something I avoided when I first started drawing. I wanted it done as soon as possible, not to dally on just one work for the whole day.

The wings weren't as impressive as I thought when done my way.

It was around this time when my sister decided to quit drawing and focused on me to improve on mine.

There were several arguments along the way, but (this would be the first and the last time I will admit) her bossiness helped in keeping my referential in check. If she had let me get my way I would have just easily given up without trying.

Before I came to realize about the said joints, they came out stiff. I at least got the facts that the squiggly-grass things I used to do were supposed to resemble feathers. The so-called feathers came out this way as I still wasn't familiar on their flow.

By bending and drawing them in curves added a sort of, as the saying goes "light as a feather" effect. In my way, I drew lesser feathers since the more I put in made it look thick. I had to practice on them by trying to randomly doodle on scratch papers.

And below are the later outcomes when I finally got used to drawing wings.

Eventually I strayed from angels wings onto other versions as well. They're actually quite fun to draw.

Now... to practice on trees... I suck at backgrounds. My perspectives are distorted.
