The traditional way. Our style. Our way.

Making BGs

I fail at it.... PERIOD.

But that doesn't mean I'd stop there. XD
I found alternatives.

Browsing the net randomly can give you a vast deal of ideas when in a slump. A single word in the search bar can give you a lot of possibilities when you use you imagination.

There's a market scene in a page which was included in the first chapter. That required a lot of buildings, stalls, crowds, sold goods, etc.

In a couple of minutes, we had five or so market images stored in our hard drive --- they were all modern/present time market places. And we picked the ones with the most visible stalls, buildings and people in it. Market scenes with too many sign boards were discarded.

From the image chose, we had it printed and placed tracing paper over it. We made use of the perspective involved and improvised with the rest. ^__^

Voila! Instant BG~

I need improvement in making extra characters.... I tend not to put enough importance in them.^^;

Unfortunately, this background was put aside. LOL

We were still discussing over the script and in the end we decided to revise it.... again. Hence, this scene will no longer be in it.

It was good practice. Goes to show that I'm out of it and my imagination has just about a few clogs in it and brain function is getting rusty. XP

For other BGs, my sis came up with her own simple ideas. Digitalizing~

Pencil to Digital Lineart

Practice makes perfect!
Well, after a series of clicking the 'undo' shortcut keys and several new canvases..... xp

One of the many drawings I've used to practice lineart with Paint Tool SAI. Above drawing is not mine, it belongs to a friend, Shin Oe. She's a member of Blots Inc. and a contributor for ICI (Ice Cream Indie), Bacolod City's very own independent manga group.

With permission I did the lineart and along with fellow members of the RP where the above characters are some of the increasingly popular OCs, Fallon and Abaven, we caused some mid-level interest in a manga community group in Facebook. There was already a proposal for a yaoi version between roommates Abaven and Xenon taken up by the one of the group's talented artist. Hoping to hear from her soon.^^

The projected pose above is still a dream of Abaven's not yet happening even in his wildest imaginations as Fallon is determined to keep him at arm's length away. LOL

I saw Shin's drawing and got interested with the lines, so I thought why not practice SAI with it? I've gotten hooked to lineart with the program, but I probably won't be using it in future works as a single page takes hours, plus we don't have a computer unit that can uphold a lot a of memory space.

My sis and I will probably stick to doing things traditionally for now except the cover pages. The frontal presentations have to give the desired impact if we want to attract attention to our works.^^

Hoping in the year 2012.... well, just good luck to the both of us, especially now that our older brother is determined to get us drunk as he failed to do in Christmas eve after all those shots. XD

WIP: Accel Rush RP

Lizard and Shade

Work in progress.

Got in mood to draw their new face. Another of numerous OCs, also NPCs for the AR RP going on in Facebook. Don't know if will get to finish this at all. Got hooked to using Paint Tool SAI and have been working on digital linearts with it. Want to color too, but will need to learn how to do so. XD

Make take time to actually finish this if I ever get back to it.

For some reason, Shade is getting popular with the female players in the RP.^^;

Summary: Potential Manga

We can't choose! T___T

Well, we got some votes for belove~D, Oroz, and Isla (note to self, remind my sis to make teaser covers for the others XD ). To help in the decision, here are short summaries:

• belove~D
Oneshot
Genre: Fantasy, Romance

Cherry made a friend. She calls him D. He came out from her closet. And no one else can see him because he's a boogieman.
Worried that his daughter resorted to make-believe friends to get over the death of her mother, her father hired a psychiatrist. No one believed her when she says she wasn't seeing things, nor talking to herself as many have seen her.
Wanting to prove to them of her mental condition, Cherry asked D to show himself one day, a promise he made but failed to keep when he never appeared on the spoken time they agreed.
She completely lost faith in him.
Some years later, Cherry grows up forgetting her childhood memories. She lived a relatively uneventful life until the very being she had come to believe was a figment of her imagination once again appeared. Only he was now an empty shell of his former self, and it was left to Cherry to find his heart before the ones who took it in the first place decided to punish him in a more severe way for letting himself be seen by a human and even befriending her.

• Maraverde
Oneshot
Genre: Supernatural, Romance, Comedy, Mystery, Horror (?), Tragedy (?)

A famous mystery writer decides to move out into the country to write his next novel, away from obsessive fans and a nagging editor. His mistake was to leaving his manager with no address whatsoever when he leaves.
He finds himself in a remotely far-away town, called Maraverde, not even found on the map, the nearest convenience store was 30 minutes away by car ride, the closest means to a night life was a street side beer stall that opens after dark.
But the most unusual of it all was the locals' behavior after knowing where he had taken residence.
At the old, but still in good condition, house that had been up for sale some years ago, only for some strange reason none wanted to purchase the property. Even the locals wouldn't be bothered to go near it, nor talk about the former owners.
His intuition says there's mystery behind his new house, he decides to investigate only his senses didn't warn him of a grateful ghost who practically hugged him for being able to see her!
And why was it that only he and his cousins can see the 'ghost' but none of the locals could? Only when asked do they seem to know who the ghost was but refuse to say anymore about it?
Not only does he have to share his new residence with one ghost, but it seems she comes in two. There was also the fact that the town had some sort of link to the spirit world as signs of the supernaturals were everywhere and they seem to keep a close eye on his ghostly housemates.

• Accel Rush
Series
Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi
(Based from an ongoing interactive RP)

A new breed of humans have started to awaken to their evolution, experiencing a 'trigger' that hastened them to advance sooner than most normal humans.
They are called Accelerators, individuals who went through a physical or mental metamorphosis that separated them from the ordinary. They harbor special skills and unique abilities to use at will. Their numbers have slowly increased over the years. Those who were discovered were registered in the government and had their lives changed in the consequence; those who fear being found out remained hidden.
The ones who underwent the natural phase of acceleration, showing obvious signs of change together with newly acquired abilities are called ACCELS. Those with superior innate skills are VERIFIERS, possessing no special abilities nor physical transformation yet have highly developed senses that identify them from the norm.
The government has long known of their existence. There were those who wanted to use such abilities to their advantage; those who wished to discover its origin; those who were against such methods; and those who refuse to have anything to do with them.
The presence of accelerators in the world, albeit discreet, were viewed as a threat. Factions soon formed within the government, extending into chains of other groups with motives of their own -- pro and anti. One in particular concluded a research and put it into actions as security against accelerators was their excuse for conducting the tests.
The ALTERS emerged, once regular humans who participated or were subjected in experiments that forced them to accelerate. The successful products, namely the survivors, came out with the same transformation as the Accels and with abilities of their own. However, the coerced transformation took its toll on their physical and mental state. Only the organization responsible for their change could provide the proper maintenance.
It was like releasing two tidal waves clashing when Alters, Accels and Verifiers clashed. To prevent further turmoil which can be considered they were accountable for, the government created an institution for Accelerators of all forms --- and possibly avert a warfare between these new classes of humans, and keep them from involving the normal ones.
In this new facility they are educated and trained to develop their skills and abilities, yet placing them on tenterhooks with each other, while keeping them from the public eye.

• Isla
Series
Genre: Supernatural, Fantasy, Action, Comedy

Set in an alternate scene of ancient Philippines, where tradition and beliefs were strongly followed, a new world is brought in Isla.
The birth of twins was once an unanswered phenomenon in the ancients times, considered to be the work of an enkanto who seek mischief, to do harm or has chosen a liking with a mortal. It was mostly the latter.
Any woman giving birth to twins always died. It was believed that one child is real, the other a duplicate vessel that steals the life of its mother. Neither can be harmed as their souls are said to be linked. Both are treated as outcasts if they do live as none would willingly take in twin infants. They usually died before their first year. They always never survived their first night.
Except for one pair.
A woman who had disappeared from her village one night, only to appear some months later, already pregnant. An enraged suitor caught her when she managed to sneak out and murdered her. The villagers had found her body in the woods, already cold, with two sleeping and newly born infants in her stiff arms. Horrified at what may be the doing of an enkanto, the elder took the infants and left them in the heart of the forest.
The once peaceful village had woken to a new dawn to find the babies wrapped in fine cloth outside the elder's doorsteps. Clearly it was a sign that the enkanto realm wished to have them raised among humans.
But for what reason?

Summaries are done on the spot... the only one that we took time to work on was Accel Rush as it was written for the RP. So it was copied and pasted form the game. XD

Which one?

If we were to ever release a manga, locally that is, which would be nice? We want to choose between these two:

In the land of OROZ
This one is sort of under progress. The characters are already created, the theme, etc. The only thing is, Oroz is a series and will take up most of our time in the details involved for this.

belove~d
Belove-D is a one-shot idea for a first release. The thing is, we still have to finalize the story.

So which should we choose?^^;

Boredom

Well, I've nothing else to do on a very slow day so I decided to finish a drawing I wanted to discard... upon the persistence of my sister who wanted me to join a local drawing contest in Facebook.

Each participant is allowed 2 entries of his/her Original Character/Artwork. So duly noted, fan arts are disqualified.

My first entry was the Weavers Family, which by the way was nearly chewed to bits by our very hyper puppy. I caught him nibbling on the sides of the paper. I just cut of the damaged sides and kept it in a safe place.

My second entry is this:
Mayu playing with spells out of boredom.
paper size: 11" x 14.5"
tools used:
    * polypencil for the rough sketch
    * mech. pen. 0.5mm & 0.9mm B (Enice) 0.5mm for the lineart
time: 3 hours (more or less)

She's one of our OCs from Oroz. I did the lineart, tones were done by my sister, Tin. She used my contest entry to try something out. XD

And here is the original lineart:

I may be drawing some more characters from Oroz... depends on my mood though. XD And I'm gonna need a lot of motivation~ ^___^

2011 - Drawing 1

Meet the complete Weavers family~

The Weavers Family

paper size: 14.5" x 22"
tools used:
  • polypencil for the rough sketch
  • Zhixhin brand gel ink pens (Enice) 0.5mm for the lineart
  • Jian Xing brand permanent markers (Marker) for the negative fills

First drawing for the year 2011. XD
Well, I started it on October 2010 and stashed it in the cabinet while still a rough sketch. Found it a month later all wrinkled with bug stains on the sides. Proceeded to work on it only yesterday... took me the whole day to finish the entire thing. The intention was to sell it but my sis found the finish piece she changed her mind and decided to hold on to it as a 'sample'. The
Weavers are among the few of her favorites of several of our OCs after all.^^; I could name 50 or so of OCs for a start but that would make a really long list.

The Weavers. The siblings are the weavers of stories, truth or fictional. They have the ability to make things come true by just speaking it. Domino, the eldest, is the weaver of Myths and Legends. Yaya (white), the middle, is the weaver of Romance and Tragedy. Yiyi (black), the youngest, is the weaver of Fairytales and Horror. Nina (sleeping), is just an ordinary girl who owns the book of their story collection, but there is something else that she holds the Weavers are keeping secret.

And that's about it. ^_^; The OCs we've created are the representations of the numerous stories we've made since I could remember. However, it only lasted up to there --- the creating of the characters and the stories remaining unfinished.
= = = = =

After 2 months or so without drawing I could really feel the stiffness in my hand gripping the pens and markers and applying the strokes. My hand is still sore up to now. I want to draw again as soon as my hand allows me to hold a pencil without throbbing. I have about 3-4 dozens of leads sharpened and ready to use and about a dozen or two of erasers lying in wait for errors. LOL

I hate procrastinating, but I can't easily find the means to inspire, yet alone motivate myself in a place where everyone thinks you're from another part of the planet.

►►At RANDOM

Or more like "MISCELLANEOUS" with the way we create and discard. A collection of our drawings made on impulse; as a note or as sort-of character designs for stories we've come up out of the blue (stories we write and forget about after a day or two -_-; ). These drawings are our way of putting an idea into paper, but it depends on the mood...

And these moods differ depending on the day, time, weather and the last person we've talked to--- which often leaves us wanting to bury someone alive or boil in hot oil. Not exactly the kind of mood to inspire but, hey, it works for us. Plus, the more my sis and I argue, the more we can actually create new characters (they just eventually end up non-human).

A majority of these randomly created drawings were done on scraps of paper, notebooks or the blank pages of a book. The more disposable they are the more I want to use them. Since my family runs a School & Office Supplies store there's plenty of reject papers around. Clean sheets of paper makes me lose the mood to work, a personality of mine to keep things clean the way they are.

Whenever we do get a hold of anything we can draw on we find ourselves with a pen or pencil in hand and already doodling and forming shapes on the blank page.

These shapes may be an eye, a pair of eyes, mouth, nose, hands, hair, expressions, body movements or an entire character complete with apparel but no face. We doodle with whatever hits us. There are times when our erratic scribbles can be used as patters on our characters clothes and extras, or they're just plain scribbles.

The number of our random works are still increasing up to this day, and when a new one comes up, expect it to be piled on top among the rest after a couple of days. If not, its easily discarded.

ART Sale!

Well, its more like 'Drawing' Sale.^^;

Been on a drawing spree since October 28, 2010 after sort of browsing through cosplay photos of the local cosplayers. Started getting ideas and motivation to draw something out of them. May and may not be an accurate resemblance with the photos I used as references (I notified the cosplayer involved).

I realized that there are thousands of photos of just the local cosplayers alone.^^; But I have to admit, very few with good photographic outcome.

Those with a real feel to them were the ones I picked out--- even lesser than the few good outcomes.

Anyway, after drawing them--- the finished product is pretty big, by the way-- I decided to sell them. It started off as an idea to animize cosplayers in nearby areas to sort of advertise our new business venture in cloth wear customizing <-- we seriously lack publicity in that part. Each 11.30" x 18.95" (28.5cm x 47.80cm) drawing costs Php30.00, its a bit smaller than a half-size cartolina. Depending on the details involved though, price may vary. So far, I've only done some in the mentioned price range. After months of procrastination, I'm getting my hand warmed up--- and I'm getting sloppy. T__T

#1 - Reference pic HERE.

#2 - Reference pic HERE.

#3 - Reference pic HERE. This one was a request.

#4 - Reference pic HERE.

#5 - Reference pic HERE.

Image quality isn't so great--- crappy photographer here.^^;
Took a pic of the drawings indoors since I can manage to finish each at night. Couldn't wait for tomorrow's sun to shine and make full use of the natural light.

On another note about the drawings for market:
  • may still contain pencil marks
  • visible pen strokes
  • not so sharp lines
  • paper may discolor and ink may stain with time
The materials I used are not-the-expensive kind and those that are easy to find within range of our town.
